Stylish, Durable & Easy to Maintain
Decorative stones and pebbles are a smart choice for both functionality and style. They’re ideal for creating visual contrast, highlighting plantings or giving your outdoor areas a tidy, finished edge. Unlike mulch, they don’t break down over time, making them perfect for low-maintenance spaces or areas where longevity is key.
Choose from natural river pebbles, crushed granite, scoria, quartz and more—available in a variety of colours, sizes and textures to suit everything from contemporary designs to classic cottage gardens.
These materials are also great for drainage zones, water features and fire pit surrounds. Call to find out which option suits your project best—we’re happy to help.
What are the best uses for decorative stones in landscaping?
Decorative stones are extremely versatile. They're often used for pathways, driveways, feature gardens, dry creek beds, fire pit surrounds and water features. They can also act as a ground cover alternative to mulch, especially in low-water or windy areas where mulch may blow away. Stones provide excellent weed suppression and drainage, and they can be used to create clean borders or add contrast between different parts of the landscape. Their durability and visual appeal make them ideal for both functional and design purposes.
Do decorative stones help with drainage?
Yes, decorative stones can significantly improve drainage when used correctly. Their porous structure allows water to pass through easily, which helps reduce pooling and waterlogging in garden beds and around structures. They’re often used around retaining walls, at the base of downpipes or in French drains to direct water away from problem areas. For best results, they should be installed over a base layer of coarse gravel or crushed rock and may include a geotextile fabric underneath to prevent soil mixing and weed growth.
How much decorative stone do I need for my project?
To estimate how much you need, calculate the area’s length and width, then multiply by the desired depth (in metres) to get the cubic volume. For example, a 5m x 2m area with a depth of 5cm (0.05m) equals 0.5 cubic metres. As a general guide, 1 cubic metre of stone covers about 10 square metres at 100mm depth. Keep in mind that coverage may vary depending on the stone’s size and whether you’re layering it over a weed mat or mixing sizes for visual effect.
